Northumbrian Water Group

Providing engineering solutions to UK water utility companies

A longstanding, collaborative relationship with Northumbrian Water Group

United Infrastructure engineer-led expertise has helped maintain the water network across the entire Northumbrian Water supply area since 2005 – delivering complex projects successfully and safely, ensuring a resilient water supply for the North East of England.

Our management team is co-located with Northumbrian Water teams at our Washington offices, ensuring close collaboration to identify opportunities for improving end-to-end processes, optimising the service, and driving performance improvements.

In 2023, Northumbrian Water extended and expanded its partnership, choosing United Infrastructure to deliver all network maintenance services across its North East network, with a fresh focus on network resilience, customer satisfaction, and low-carbon solutions.

Delivering best value for residents

We currently have an engineering and construction contract, worth £18 million per year, which covers the five-year asset management period (AMP8), from 2025 to 2030. Our expert engineering teams will continue to deliver network improvements in collaboration with NWG’s project team to ensure the network’s resilience throughout the AMP8 regulatory period. Our work includes:

  • Mains replacement
  • Lead replacement and connections for new housing and industrial developments
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Smart metering

In addition, the Water team undertakes backfilling, and reinstatement following maintenance work and will be one of three suppliers responsible for repairs resulting from mains failures. Our dedicated management team will also work closely with NWG to implement various technology and process improvements to meet OFWAT’s objectives.

Ensuring a positive, lasting legacy

A key priority for our business is to leave a lasting legacy. We are committed to 100% local labour for the whole contract. Our procurement strategy is also focused on maximising trade revenue with local businesses and supply chains.

Working in partnership to support WaterAid

We believe that clean water should be available to everyone, everywhere, today and for future generations. That’s why we’re proud to work with NWG in support of WaterAid, a leading international charity dedicated to providing clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene to everyone, everywhere.

Our passionate volunteers support numerous events across the North East of England, meaning that our partnership work with Northumbrian Water and WaterAid is truly grounded in our local communities, helping to get the water and sanitation crisis to the forefront of people’s minds.

We also sponsor Northumbrian Water’s annual charity golf day, which raises thousands of pounds every year. The 2025 event raised over £10,000 to support WaterAid’s goal of a world where everyone, everywhere, has access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.
