OUR SOCIAL VALUE APPROACH

Building a lasting legacy

Our vision at United Infrastructure is to create a connected, more sustainable future. That’s why we are dedicated to maximising our social value impact across all our business operations.

A key priority for our business is to leave a lasting legacy, aligned with the needs and desires of each community we serve. By working closely with community organisations, stakeholders, and clients, we develop tailored social value plans that deliver meaningful change, stimulate economic growth, and improve lives.

Our dedicated social value teams design and deliver impactful programmes that support the communities we serve and create positive, long‑term outcomes.

SOCIAL VALUE OVERVIEW

Our strategy to maximise impact

We believe that as a company we have a moral obligation to create lasting and positive change within the communities we serve.

To ensure our social value work is as effective as possible, we have split our activities into three key areas:

  • Support the communities we serve
  • Build pathways to increase employability
  • Empower and invest in future generations

By focusing our social value on these three key areas, we can improve social mobility, increase earning potential, and enhance the lives of residents across the UK.

OUR KEY IMPACT AREAS

Driving positive change

  • Support the communities we serve

We work collaboratively, with clients, local charities and organisations to support the local communities we are working within. These partnerships ensure that our support is aligned with local needs and requirements. This results in long lasting and positive outcomes for residents and an increase in overall community cohesion.

  • Build pathways to increase employability

We increase access to employment opportunities within communities. This is achieved by utilising local workforces on our projects to boost the local economy. Additionally, we deliver employability initiatives in local communities which empower individuals to find employment. Consequently improving social mobility and earning potential for recipients.

  • Empower and invest in future generations

Across our business we offer a wide range of early career opportunities. Our early careers colleagues are provided with a great knowledge base and valuable experience, setting them up for a great career. Additionally, we work with local schools to increase pupil interest in STEM. Empowering students with new knowledge and inspiration

PROVIDING IMPACTFUL SUPPORT

Steps into Construction

Our Social Infrastructure team worked in collaboration with various local public bodies to carry out a social value initiative aimed at empowering young people, who are currently Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET).

The initiative provided hands-on experience, industry insights and tailored guidance to help NEET young people take confident steps towards a future in construction.

By combining informative employability support with real-world exposure to the construction industry, participants benefit from an increased likelihood of future financial stability, along with greater personal satisfaction and pride

Overall candidates reported back that they had a positive experience and spoke about the knowledge they had gained regarding the construction industry, the diverse roles available to them, and how the course has supported their growth and aspirations for future careers.

providing local support

The Hope Community Project

The charity, based on the Heath Town estate, was formed in 1985 and supports people of all ages in the community. In 2017, it was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee award for voluntary service, the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK.

The Social Infrastructure team has worked closely with the Hope Community Project for many years, providing financial support with the community in mind, including a £10k food bank sponsorship per year for the next five years. Our staff also help to cook and deliver Christmas meals for local families and individuals across Wolverhampton.

Social Infrastructure has also donated equipment for the new IT suite and provided access to United Infrastructure’s E-learning platform, supporting people into work, and developing new skills. We also help to facilitate family fun days throughout the summer period.

Giving back

Our charity partner

As a business, we do what’s right for our people, clients and communities. It’s in our DNA. That’s why we’ve chosen Mind, the mental health charity, as our corporate charity partner.

This partnership signifies our commitment to combating the stigma surrounding mental health, as we enhance workplace initiatives and create an environment where positive mental health and wellbeing are actively supported.
