Effective solutions for the UK

Assess → Select → Integrate → Deliver → Operate

Power is the critical path for many new data centres. United Infrastructure brings the engineering, procurement and construction disciplines together as the lead delivery partner, coordinating the infrastructure required to move a development from concept to operational power.

We assess the available routes to energisation, integrate specialist technologies and delivery partners, and take a whole-system view of programme, resilience, cost, planning and long-term operation. From grid connections to on-site generation and hybrid solutions, our focus is simple: the fastest credible route to dependable power.

Where required, our water and telecoms businesses, together with access to funding and energy-supply partners, can support a wider, coordinated infrastructure solution.

EPC partner

One coordinated route from feasibility to energisation

Data centre power infrastructure crosses multiple technical and commercial interfaces. As lead EPC delivery partner, United Infrastructure brings together engineering, technology selection, procurement, construction and commissioning within a coordinated programme. We manage the interfaces between utility networks, specialist equipment providers, designers, regulators and site contractors, helping clients make informed decisions earlier and reducing the risk of disconnected work packages. Our role is to provide clear delivery leadership, with scope and responsibilities agreed for each project.

Route to power

Technology-neutral options, evaluated against the site

Every development has a different combination of grid capacity, gas availability, land, planning constraints and resilience requirements. We compare grid reinforcement, private HV/MV networks, gas-to-power generation, fuel cells, reciprocating engines, turbines and hybrid or bridge-to-grid arrangements. By considering time to power alongside capital and operating costs, environmental impact, scalability and delivery risk, we help clients select a viable solution before critical design decisions are locked in.

Integrating power and wider site infrastructure

The complete power chain, with optional water and telecoms capability.

Our capabilities span high- and intermediate-pressure gas connections, pipelines, pressure reduction and metering installations, on-site generation infrastructure, substations, HV/MV distribution, cabling and private networks. We coordinate specialist generation and power-conditioning suppliers to align equipment with the data centre’s electrical architecture, dynamic loads and resilience strategy. This integrated approach considers the complete path from energy source to the agreed electrical handover point.

Our water and telecoms businesses can also support the wider development, with optional water infrastructure and telecommunications packages coordinated alongside the power works. These services can be included within the EPC programme or delivered as separate, coordinated packages, giving clients the flexibility to use the capabilities they need while retaining their preferred network providers and specialist contractors.

Delivering resilience, flexibility and future readiness

Designed around critical loads and evolving energy needs

For mission-critical facilities, capacity alone is not enough. We develop solutions around availability, redundancy, maintainability, power quality and phased expansion, with resilience assumptions tested through appropriate engineering studies. Our approach also considers changing AI load profiles, future grid connections, cleaner fuels, emissions management, potential carbon capture and heat reuse. The result is infrastructure planned for operational performance today and adaptation over its lifetime.

From early development to long-term operation

Connecting delivery, funding and operational requirements

We engage early to assess utilities, land, planning, permitting, commercial structures and procurement lead times. From feasibility and FEED through consenting support, civil construction, equipment installation, testing and commissioning, we build a delivery programme around real dependencies and clear decision gates. We can also coordinate operational handover, maintenance strategies and future infrastructure upgrades, helping developers and operators maintain continuity as their sites grow.

Alongside EPC delivery, we can connect clients with infrastructure funders, gas shippers and specialist electricity suppliers to explore the right commercial model for their development. This can include third-party funding and asset ownership, gas shipping and fuel supply, and arrangements for a specialist provider to sell electricity to the data centre, including through a power purchase agreement where appropriate.

By bringing the technical and commercial parties together early, we help align the delivery programme, fuel requirements and operating model. Funding and energy-supply arrangements are agreed with the relevant providers to suit each project.

How we deliver

We start by understanding your requirements – load, site location, available grid capacity, environmental constraints and planning route.

We compare every option – grid-only, grid-plus-reinforcement, private network, on-site generation, gas-to-power, hybrid generation, renewables integration and phased bridge-to-grid options.

We bring DNOs, IDNOs, technology suppliers, planning teams and local stakeholders into one coordinated plan.

From FEED and consenting through to civil works, HV/MV electrical and gas infrastructure, PRS/AGI, substations, generation plant and commissioning.

We stay involved for the long-term, supporting inspections, maintenance, asset upgrades, carbon reduction, heat reuse and future grid transition as your site evolves.

Our other available capabilities include water and cooling infrastructure, district heating and heat reuse, fibre and digital connectivity, and white and grey space enablement.
