AFECO awarded United Utilities contract on major North West framework

United Living Group, the provider of infrastructure, affordable housing, property services, and telecoms, is pleased to announce that AFECO, part of United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS), has been awarded a place on United Utilities framework for its major AMP8 investment plans in the North West’s water and wastewater infrastructure. The value of the new minor works framework to be shared with 30 partners is circa £500 million.

Acquired by United Living in April 2024, AFECO, is a leading independent specialist engineering services and solutions company focused on the water, marine and energy sectors. United Utilities has chosen 10 mechanical and electrical specialists including AFECO and 20 local, civils-based subject matter experts.

United Utilities and other water companies are waiting for approval from the regulator Ofwat for their spending plans in asset management, which run from April 2025 to the end of March 2030.

AFECO will deliver water and wastewater mechanical and electrical works, supporting the Water, Wastewater and Better Rivers programmes. A large part of the framework is associated with delivering major environmental benefits to the region including a reduction in storm overflow activations. The works will include design, installation, commissioning and optimisation; delivering effective solutions associated with control panels, switchboards, SCADA, PLC systems, and electrical systems.

Campbell Crawford, Managing Director, United Living Infrastructure Services, commented:

“We are delighted that United Utilities has chosen AFECO as a partner in the region’s largest proposed investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for more than a century.

“AFECO has an outstanding reputation for providing innovative mechanical and electrical solutions. AFECO will bring industry leading engineering capabilities and expertise to support United Utilities in delivering this major programme of works which benefit the environment, customers and the local North West community.”
