United Infrastructure secures place on SP Energy Networks clean power frameworks

United Infrastructure has been awarded two major SP Energy Networks frameworks, covering both substation civils and substation electrical works operating across the RIIO ED-2 period and extending into RIIO-ED3.

The frameworks form part of a multi-billion-pound investment to upgrade and modernise electricity networks, supporting the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition. The investment will increase network capacity, accelerate renewable and low-carbon connections, and improve system resilience as the UK transitions to a secure, sustainable energy future.

The investment will play a key role in supporting regional economic growth, enabling new energy connections and strengthening critical infrastructure for local communities and businesses.

The frameworks award cover the Manweb Licence area, which covers North West England and Wales spanning the Merseyside and Cheshire regions, the Dee Valley, Mid Wales and North Wales and provide United Infrastructure with the opportunity to deliver the design, construction, and refurbishment of substation electrical and civils works from 11kV up to 132kV.

The frameworks will run for an initial four-year period, with contracts expected to be awarded throughout their duration.

United Infrastructure will work in close partnership with SP Energy Networks and its supply chain to deliver a resilient and reliable electricity network, while supporting local employment, skills development and long-term economic growth across the region.

Maurice Lynch, Engineering Director, Power, United Infrastructure, said:

“Being selected as the only contractor on both the electrical and civils framework is a significant milestone for our business and reflects the strength and breadth of our capabilities across civil and electrical delivery.

“We are proud to support SP Energy Networks in delivering critical infrastructure that will underpin regional growth, create local opportunities and accelerate the UK’s transition to a cleaner, more secure energy system.”

Sean Kennedy (Licence Design & Development Manager), SP Energy Networks commented:

“Our network investment plans for RIIO-ED3 and beyond are central to enabling the UK’s transition to Net Zero, while continuing to provide safe, reliable and resilient electricity supplies for our customers.

Appointing United Infrastructure to our substation electrical and civils frameworks strengthens our delivery capability across both RIIO-ED2 and into RIIO-ED3, giving us the scale, skills and flexibility needed to build new infrastructure, modernise our existing assets, increase network capacity and connect new low-carbon generation and demand.

Strong partnerships with experienced service providers like United Infrastructure are critical to delivering the infrastructure Britain needs for the future, supporting economic growth, facilitating decarbonisation and ensuring our customers benefit from a network that is fit for a Net Zero energy system.”
