United Living wins £2 million contract with Yorkshire Water

United Living Group, the provider of infrastructure, affordable housing, and property services, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS), has been awarded a £2 million contract by Yorkshire Water to lay approximately 6km of new water pipelines at Leeming Bar Industrial Estate, near Bedale, North Yorkshire.

In March 2023, the 34-hectare Leeming Bar Industrial Estate received planning approval for the addition of 18 new businesses, which is expected to substantially increase the demand for water in the area. To ensure the fulfilment of future water supply requirements, Yorkshire Water has entrusted ULIS with this major infrastructure project.

As this project is in a rural setting, minimising the environmental impact during construction is critical. ULIS is fully committed to undertaking a variety of measures to ensure the sustainability of the project by focusing heavily on erosion control, wildlife protection, and adhering to environmental regulations.

In addition to laying new water mains, United Living will work closely with local stakeholders to mitigate any inconveniences to customers and ensure a continuous supply of water is maintained. As well as upgrading pipework, ULIS will also take responsibility for upgrading roads where necessary to facilitate efficient access during the construction phase. These road improvements are expected to have a lasting positive impact on the local community.

John Farrell, Managing Director of United Living Infrastructure Services, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Yorkshire Water on this significant initiative, which not only supports economic development but also underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility and the local community.

“This project is not without its challenges, particularly in navigating multiple water courses. ULIS has harnessed its industry expertise by utilising directional drilling techniques to mitigate any environmental impact on the surrounding area. Upholding our commitment to minimising environmental impact is at the heart of ULIS’ strategy, and we are committed to ensuring the sustainability of our operations.

“We look forward to working closely with Yorkshire Water to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply for businesses at Leeming Bar Industrial Estate.”

Steph Horgan, Project Manager at Yorkshire Water, commented: “This is a significant investment by Yorkshire Water underlying our commitment to supply the residents of Leeming Bar with the best quality drinking water. The work has been planned in a way that tries to minimise disruption to residents and we will continue to keep people updated on progress throughout the scheme which is due to complete in May 2024.”
